Proof of concept integrating Kinect with AutoCAD, both using the point cloud input and interpreting a few basic gestures.

Many thanks to Boris Scheiman for his work on nKinect enabling this functionality.

  • Can the kinect be turned into a low cost room scanner? The ones sold by Leica are very expensive.

  • @beornborg There are lots of lower cost options for "reality capture": you could certainly work from a point cloud generated by a Kinect, just as you could work with tools such as Photo Scene Editor (you can find it on Autodesk Labs) to generate point clouds (and soon meshes) from sets of photographs.
