It's like he talks about israel=zion
(which is the same meanning in hebrew).
We remember our past -> the inquisition and the holocaust and we fought in our only ancient and tiny state ever, Zion, against who ever wanted to demolish us, from all the frontiers and all the sizes and all the numbers, we are standing still and we'll go on and stand steel for eternity, FOR ZION!!!

@alonrose of course... there are multiple opinions stating that matrix has its storyline based on bible. think about it - neo, the chosen one, as jesus christ, to lead all humans out of misery to let them live happily in the zion in peace...
