Everything strips purple nerds of their color, not just strawberry hill. If you eat nerds, but don't chew them (because that is disgusting) they will lose their color and eventually become this crystal that tastes amazing. Their coating is disgusting. That's how I eat nerds. I suck the disgusting cover off, then eat the crystal goodness.
