  • Another ignorant peice of paper. Schools over, dude, time to stop learning; like all the other peices of paper.

  • @93hipgnosis : he is not an horticulturist, rather an economist. he is trying to using an analogy, rather getting too technical about pruning of the tree

  • he inocrrect an misunderstand the art! They stay small because of pruning and shaping. They often just as much growing as a larger tree might but it's been pruned off over the years to create desired shape. BONSAI ARE NOT STUNED OR HARMED IN ANY WAY BY PROPER APPLICATION OF BONSAI TRAINING TECHNIQUES.

  • On a different note, you can most definitely grow Bonsai plant from seed. Since you added "usually" , I am assuming you are not discrediting his statement. Typically Bonsai approach is to trim/prune/train a well shaped tree (feasible size) to fit in a small pot but many seedling find its way to a Bonsai pot.

  • dokkiro, you completely missed the point he is trying to make. The idea of "Bonsai" (Growing in a Pot) - Art of stunting the growth of a large tree very much like how misfortune of of the poverty stunting the "growth" (if you will) of the poor people's livelihood. Don't go much further than that.

Now if you take the Bonsai out of the pot and plant it on the ground, it will grow to a 60 feet tree (if that tree suppose to grow that large). That is his point... Give them the room to grow!

  • Bonsai trees are usually not grown from seeds. So if there were few grown up from poverty but made it big then does that mean the tree broke out of its pot? It sounds like poor people are systematically fed and cared for and kept small by the system for very very long time so we can be entertained looking at their beauty.

  • There are two kinds of bonsai trees very expensive kinds that costs 100,000$s to cheap 2$ junifer bonsai. BTW junifer bonsai is grown from seed stock that are very different from tall pine trees.
