southern7002x,...Yes to both. Bobby passed away on duty if my memory serves me. And I remember David briefly on the north-end, but saw him more when I went to the yard (as he was coming and going). Bobby was a workaholic and I always figured it would catch up with him before his time. Of course, the real old heads on the NE when I hired on were Glen Mitchell, "Cowboy" Mintz, Frank (I think) Moon, and Ramses III......You'd have to rate those guys' seniority with carbon-14 !

My Uncle Harold ( affectionately known as "Horse-Face" ) was involved in a career ending derailment at Brice due to a washout. This was in 1983 or '84 I think. Time gets blurred to an old retiree. At any rate, although he had been injured on a number of occasions, this one messed up his neck and he never came back from it. He has been deceased for 6 or 7 years now.

Did you ever work with Bobby Deaton or David Shanks? Bobby had a heart attack several years ago and passed away. I always knew it was him on the radio when he'd say "NS 231 has a clear indication at the golden city of Aragon." David was one of the first railroaders I met when I first began watching trains about 20 years ago.
