i finally got another after the original broke but i will put this back on and truck is still going strong

Back in the late 1960s, GM introduced "cold air intake" on their full size cars with V8 engines with carburators in an effort to increase fuel economy. Prior to this, the breather intake generally had no tubing at the end and air intake was directly from the end of the short "snorkle" on the breather. Those were rather primitive using materials that usually dry rotted and owners ended up removing them in a few years... Later plastic materials replaced the canvas type which we see today...

to factory stock you keep your truck the more dependable it will be

@jgant2008 that is what i had in mind its made it 170k with the factory air intake i would've had another one sooner but i could not find one to purchase now the truck just hit 183k and is doing absolutely great since your a Dodge Tech would you say 13.7mpg city Avg is normal for my 01 ram 1500 5.2L and highway its around 15-16 Mpg i have seen other similar Dodge trucks averaging better thanks for the comment buddy i just want to have it make 200k problem free and hope for many more

That fuel economy is typical but could maybe improve with a tune up and with

a scan tool, you can check your distributor sync, this is adjusted by turning

the distributor until the reading on the scan tool is at zero degrees

at that point your cam and crank sensor are in sync and fuel mileage

and performance be at its best with that adjustment
