Siepi and Tozzi were at the Met simultaneously. For some reason Tozzi usually got this role and Siepi didn't. Siepi owned Don Giovanni and Tozzi almost never got to sing it. Politics?
This is one of Siepi's poorest recordings. He's a little unsteady. Old?
BTW this is the easiest standard bass aria.

Cesare Siepi ist für mich mich ein Sänger der höchsten Klasse, ein Sänger des Jahrhunderts. Zum Glück habe ich ihn einmal erlebt: Konzertante Aufführung des ERNANI an der Oper Hamburg im Jahre 1981. Unvergesslich.
Es ist wunderbar, ihn hier immer mal wieder sehen und hören zu können.-
Er bleibt für immer in meinem Herzen.
