NOTE: In the end of 1930s, Iwo WESBY took over, after Henryk Wars, artistical directorship of Syrena-Electro record company. Unfortunately, that young and dynamic bandleader did not have much time left to show off all of his talents. Fortunately, he survived the Holocaust owing his life to Mieczysław Fogg, who was hiding him on the „aryan" side until the end of German occupation of Warsaw during the Second World War. Less luck in his life had the real bon viveur of prewar Warsaw - Andrzej WŁAST, director of „Morskie Oko", that was one of the most famous pre war revue theatres in Warsaw. His tragic life story can be found at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LtyYBgmIyBk

What a beautiful tango! Another proof that H. Gold could write good music as well as orchestrate it. Love the pictures of the artists and of the contemporary life. The lady at the cafe with the phone on the table is no different than today's people with their cell phones.

Did you notice some mysterious number on the table? Probably it was the in-door communication system between clients. Like the one you may remeber from Bob Foss' movie "Cabaret"

Yes, Bob my temperament indeed, is very close to the hot rhythms of the 1920s. But those old tangos of prewar Poland also have some true spell on every Pole - mostly, bacause they come from the Atlantis... It's the haunting voice of our souls, coming from long long ago, from before the Great Catastrophe in 1939, which changed our land & our nation forever
