When i was visiting Damascus I totally unexpected wound up at the Danish Institution where they had a syrian movie night. This time the movie Al-Kompars from 1993 was shown and the writer/ director of the movie Nabil Maleh (a legendary film maker with 150+ titles) would be present afterwards so you could ask him some questions about the movie.
I didn't expect much from the movie but wow, I was blown away. It was movie that was still relevant today in the country of Syria. Because within the movie Nabil went pretty hard against the Baath regime that governates the country of Syria.
After the movie Nabil answered some questions and this answer was one of the most interesting ones. It tells how his movie was being attacked by the Baath regime in Syria wen it was made but finally wound up to be one of the most popular movies in the Syrian movie history. Because till this day now, whenever the movie is shown in a cinema in Syria, The theater will be packed with people...
