The other voice actors were pretty bad, but the guy who did Desslok was awesome.

Oh wow!! I remember this moment when I watched this back in the 5th grade. I felt bad for him although, of course, I knew the Earth only had xx # of days left, so... Anyway, wow... lol !! Memories... DESSLOK, Desslok, Desslok....

@gnatx oh come on crypt was good too......" what is to be done"......and later in this sceen..he asks deslock to consider defeate & stop fighting...." how can an old earth battleship defeate all of Gamilon?"....we been fighting a force that we dont understand, let us stop fighting them before they destroy us!!"........after this impassioned plea, in the real version, deslock kills cryprt with his pistol, in the USA version they cut to deslock saying something elese.

Desslock was cool---a surprisingly complex villain. I thought the way season one played him was fantastic. From an aloof dictator who considered the star force a minor annoyance to a driven, embittered man who was obsessed with it. They can't match this character complexity in any animation since.

@mattmanganon Hey, man. I never saw the Yamato catroon with the "deep, manly voice" as you call it. Was it Japanese or English? Anyhow, THIS version of Desslokk, the British version, is the ONLY version I know. And, for me, it works, because the voice has such swagger and charisma and exudes arrogance. The voice actor, Eddie Allen, put such persoality and depth into that character, it was more of a villain you love to hate. A villain you both want to see win and lose at the same time.

To this day, Desslok has remained the best villian I have ever seen. And in the 2nd series, where he sacrifices himself to help the Argo, was priceless. I was actually rooting for Desslok then. It's like when a wrestler you hate turns face.

Why didn't they chant the Roman way: DES-LOK! DES-LOK! DES-LOK!

It would have been more dramatic.

PS: does anyone know if I can get Yamato in Japanese with subtitles (the only way to watch anime)..?

Amazing. I grew up on Star Blazers. Then finally Voyager released Uchuu Senkan Yamato movie series and I also got hold of the original TV 3 part series on region free DVD. Being a purist of anime, I disregarded the English dub Star Blazers with the annoyances of changing the character names, the use of Star Force, and calling Yamato the Argo. Still, the English dub voice actor who did Desslock (Deslar) is perhaps the most brilliant memorable voice acting ever holding true today.

@mattmanganon Is the foul langage really nessesary? As for the wretched Deslock, I think the American voice was cool. So relaxed and creepy.
