There is a report of ONE PERSON who shoots free throws underhand in organized basketball ... in this case ... at the High School Level. He is the Number One free throw shooter on his Varsity Basketball team. Last year, he shot 75 percent.

Canyon is the "fifth" Rick Barry son. It is reported that Brent Barry shot free throws underhand in high school and quit shooting underhand while playing at Oregon State.

SoCooLBob is now 65 years old ... has very little left in his legs and/or lungs.
He currently shoots free throws two or three times a week and during several competitive sessions has shot in excess of 90 percent.

Update December 4, 2010

After three games of one on one, which currently leaves "old" SoCooLBob with no legs and little air, SoCooLBob shot over 90 percent, in competition with his son Jon, about 150 shots.

Had 5 ten out of tens including one 25 in a row.
I can't recall the last time I missed the last shot to tie or win.

Turns out you don't even need strong legs (although it will help) to be successful at this shot.

the main reason why noone will shoot like this because it looks odd. in europe we got a bunch of guys that shoot free throws 95 proc. per season the usual way. example: Sarunas Jasikevicius at his best years had always over 90 proc. so IMO it's all about the training and cold nerves
