What is it with celebrities and twitter?

Here I go again, another Twitter video.

It just seems to me that Twitter is furthering our society's infatuation with celebrities. We already read about them everywhere from gossip sites to tabloids, and everywhere else in between, so why do we feel the need to follow them on Twitter, too?

Of course, I'm guilty of it as well, and even I really don't understand why.

Are we just using it as another way of getting some sort of pseudo-fame because some celebrity responded to a tweet?
