Nice Setup! You should run a t connection instead of an elbow. Put a small tube section with a cap on the one open spot on the T. This will eliminate your need for a powerhead. When you want to do a water change pull the cap pour water in the open cap until the tube fills up and put the cap back on. Now when you open the ball valve below you will already have enough of a siphon in the tube and it should begin to drain. Just a suggestion on how I did Mine.

I really like this system, but i'm wondering if you have a automatic filling system to, or if you do it al manually

At the very end, when he says, "the only down side is, with a filter like this, you have to start it with a powerhead."
How do u start it with a powerhead. He left that part out

Genius. I'm always modifying commercial filters & accessories to care for my fish. But nothing this elaborate. Impressive. I always replace the "media crap" that they put in filters with set-ups of my own design. It takes time & effort but it saves money & works much better. Form & function over beauty.
