@sol3a1 Bismarck wasn't sank by gunfire at all. She was sank by few torpedoes from CA HMS Dorsetshire.

In fact, you can't sink a BB with gunfire. Only if you manage to hit her in magazine. You can destroy a BB with shells, but not sink it, if you know what I mean.

Bismarck and Kirishima are prime example of that.

Yamato could be hit with 100 405mm shells from Iowa, she wouldn't sink even if the Iowa's shells penetrate her. And they could penetrate vital parts of her even at medium range.
