@shawn76o This comment is really old, but frankly I don't even care. You may be right, it may be an insignificant pain to the elephant; however, you're forgetting that they're all ready doing something majorly wrong: CAPTIVATING the fucking animals in an environment that is not natural for them. They should let the elephants be, without disturbing their natural habitat or way of life.

The poles don't hurt the elephants, silly. Hitting an elephant with a bamboo stick is the equivalent to hitting a human with a pool noodle. LMAO These people care for and protect their elephants, but they have to protect tourists too, so they have to keep the beasts subdued. You should really learn about stuff before you offer mean comments.
