Highlights of the 'Oldies but Goldies' 1950's saloon car race at the 'Top Hat Master' meeting at Snetterton in March 2008. In-car footage from our Riley as it battles with an Austin A35, A40, Volvo Amazon, Sunbeam Rapier, Wolseley 1500, Aston Martin DB2, Ford Anglia and an MG Magnette.

  • Great vid, I really got a soft spot for Riley 1.5 tc, when I was a young kid my dad had two in the 60's and 70's (showing my age here), What surprises me about this vid is why you couldnt beat the inferior Wolsley 1.5 with just single carb? And was that an Aston Martin you passed? Any way dont recall my dad driving anywhere nere as fast. Best of British!!

  • Hi, Thanks for the comments.

The rules allow the Wolseley to run the same carbs as us - hence we are closely matched. Yes it was an Aston Martin DB2!

    Cheers.

  • Love the video, it took me back to my yooff

  • Superb pick up and a good top end. NIce lines too :)

  • Don't know why people get excited over Formula one racing. Most of the "scraps" are in court after the finish! BORING.

    THIS is real racing.

  • Great video. Shame about the ending...! I've got one of these - I go to work in it most days. Everyone loves it!

  • I wonder if used to be Mr Banhams Riley.

  • I'm afraid there will be no appearance of the Riley at snetterton in march 2009 - we've just blown the engine up! Testing at Snetterton....

  • Cool! The Sebring race track has vingage car races before the 12 hour race...always good to see the history of motorcar racing played out again! :) Jack

  • Real edge of seat stuff! I wanted to catch that Wolseley :o)

  • Excellent video. It is nice to see some original footage.

I used to own a Wols. 1500 but it obviously never sounded like that or went as fast that is a lumpy cam you have installed. Now I own a Westminster, the only one in Spain.

I am going to watch the rest of your videos

  • Oh man what an ending! Enjoyed the tour, hope to see you next year. Peter (Snet medical staff).
