  • POVERTY IS A STATE OF MIND!!

  • slums are a product of globalization. the curriculum offered to its inhabitants is geared towards under developing them mentally wise. the slum people need a curriculum that can help them identify resources within their midst and use them to sustain themselves. in other words am smrity is trying to advocate for capacity building for sustainability.

thnks smrity for giving the unheared a chance to be listened to.

  • yessir...we're heading there, two steps forward then three steps right back. Actually taxing the population everybody here included, is the very base all civilization i.e. progress is based on. Way to Go!

  • Mkesh, you are right but one thing you that i'm sure you know is this.... countries that are corrupt to the point that there basic services are crippled have one thing in common. There are more illiterate people than educated people.the more educated people are the better the leaders they choose.

  • siasabora, yes i do pay taxes. but the reality of kenya is this. MOI and his cronies failed to plan for 24years!!! population grew, income fell. Now 30% of kenyans pay taxes to support 70% of kenyans. it's like supporting 15 kids on ksh 10,000. we have to either increase TAX BASE, get heavy foreign direct investment or get big loans to fix this immediately otherwise MOI'S MESS WILL TAKE YEARS and YEARS TO CLEAN!!!!

  • yes ,Mkesh. b4 kids start learning some corrupt PEO office inspectors come in to approve Class size, Syllabus, Teacher/pupils ratio, Fields, No. of Toilets, teacher training levels all that stuff only then do yu get a licence/approvals.

  • Hey goo1358 we have slums in kenya and you know the kind of life they lead, they also have kids, you mustbe in ur wildest imagunations to think these kids atend diescent scholl, It slum life in all dimensions. Welcome to ur motherland. DO something now you know. I hope you are not referring to the western preached democracy. where Mubarak is a good dictator and And hamas who were democratically elected are terrorists. we need good governance and GOOD GOVERNANCE ‡ DEMOCRACY.

  • Well slum rustlers you might call them, but the kids there cant really do much about it, they are just making use of the best opportunity availed to them, so here is a Gov preaching free primary education without providing schools, I think here is the rustler coming in with an Idea of providing educational institution, instead of fighting it we should join in and make it better. This is a basic need, do we even have specific standards to be met b4 a school gets registered?

  • Goo1358 yu pay taxes? Then ask the gov't to provide quality education to all children, this slums included. Yu don't wake up one morning nail together cardboards on top of a sewer and call that a school...these teachers are bribing this kids with money to excel! Unethical! You n I pay taxes, let the Education dept. do its work or you vote the Coalition/MP out! Democracy at its best!
