Based on Aleksandr Pushkin's verse novel.
In the opulent St. Petersburg of the Empire period, Eugene Onegin is a jaded but dashing aristocrat - a man often lacking in empathy, who suffers from restlessness, melancholy and, finally, regret. Through his best friend Lensky, Onegin is introduced to the young Tatiana. A passionate and virtuous girl, she soon falls hopelessly under the spell of the aloof newcomer and professes her love for him...

I domt think the fe wl ings on his part are non-existant, But I could be wrong. Anyways the way he denid her wasnt the best way, but definatly not the worst. So in a way he was..nice-ish about it. He told the truth although most of the time the truth hurts. Although I could be wronge on all ive just said this was some what opinionated.

If he would have said yes it wouldn't have been just to make her happy. But he couldn't because that would mean he'd have to change his hole life, the life he was use to till then.

I still think he didn't act humane. I assume from all his bitterness and wretchedness he deep down inside FELT something for Tatiana but still IGNORED it ( he saw Tatiana as different and special) So later when he came begging Tatiana did the same to him but was nicer for she conformed her love to him when he begged her to.

I didn't say Onegin was always a gentleman, I just said that in this specific occasion , he behaved like the best of gentlemen. He doesn't love her, and he doesn't think of himself as a family man, so what should he do: accept her love just to make her happy? We all do things we regret later, the problem is noone can foresee the future, and Oneging couldn't foresee that he'd fall for Tatiana, or that it would be too late when he would or that she could save him

Onegin is not being a true gentleman. He lives a life which is a bore to him, does not respect the people around him and is deluded by thinking he is special not to believe in the tyranny of love. When Tatiana came to him he felt differently. There was a slight belief in love and the beauty of love. She could have SAVED him and he could have lived a beautiful life.

Exactly, he knew he was a troubled soul and that any marriage he entered into would be end in domestic violence and adultery. He really (in this interpretation) did her a favor.
