Here is Paul's introduction to that unforgettable piece of music that gave Paul his opportunity on Britain's Got Talent in 2007:

There was a Chinese princess who saw marriage as a form of slavery so she set very strict rules to limit the chances of ever having to marry.

In order to marry her, her suitor had to be a Prince. Not only that, the Princess, whose name is Turandot, sets three riddles that must be answered to gain her hand in marriage. If the prince is incorrect for even one of these riddles, then he is beheaded.

There are still some brave Princes that decide to take the challenge. One of them is Calaf, who is unknown to the Princess. He answers all three riddles correctly, to which Turandot reacts coldly that the rule should not apply to her. Calaf steps up and says that if she can name him, he will die. If, however she cannot name him then he will win, and she will be his.

Turandot sends an order to Peking that "No one must sleep"(the meaning of Nessun Dorma) until his name is found. Nessun Dorma is Calaf's reflection on the words of Turandot and her cold nature and his determination that he will win.

who the hell you are to say that? Pavarotti was a professional opera singer since his young years. paul potts has been a professional for a few years now. But if he had been proferssional since his early years, he would have been very alike to pavarotti. Paul potts has a brilliant technique for a man who hasnt been professional for a long time

I'm amazed by how ignorant you are. Mr. Potts IS an opera singer because he sings ARIAS. By definition an aria is an operatic song. You MUST sing opera to sing something like "Nessun Dorma", there's no way around it.

@mcgintythegreat: Not all critics are putting Potts down. Some want to give an accurate assessment. If you've been heavily exposed to a good mix of the truly great tenors like Bjorling, Pavarotti, Caruso, Corelli, Gigli, etc., you'd have easily summed Potts up as an amateur with a decent voice, but a voice not rich and luxurious enough to propel him to greatness. All the training in the world can't transplant what nature has denied.

I must say you're wrong, because it is an opera singer who studied at a conservatory mandatory, and above all a musician who should know a minimum reading score at first glance, to know harmony, counterpoint rule, know all the themes of music because it is a profession with a title. another thing is that opera singer who sings operas whole ...

Paul's good at his singing You have to remember all the other professionals don't do anything else but sing and well trained for it. Paul also sells mobile phones something out of range for Placido Domingo

Y'know, it never ceases to amaze me how many folks take the piss out of people like Paul, and hundreds of others just like him when they themselves couldn't sing a bloody note between them without f***g it up bigtime.

Until YOU've been there and tried it, don't comment on others' abilities - everyone's a singer in their own bathroom, and that's where it should stay.

Regardless of fact he's sung in..er.. no operas,he is just not a good singer! Singers at first year music college better than him technically.That's the real issue.Pathetic he gets millions of hits on here and there's miles better classical singers who the masses don't bother with 'cause they are'nt on junk UK tv with a phone in.

If you take time to listen to my videos of real singers eg.Winbergh,Trost,Wunderlich,A­lagna,Florez, you will a hear huge difference in quality.

Met and coming back from the Met.

Wouldn't trade my voice EVER for the

thin little tenor sound of Potts. So why

Hate to break the news to you zuchhini

but just singing an aria DOES NOT make

one an opera singer. Michael Bolton

sings this..does that make him an opera

singer? No, you don't have to sing opera

to sing this aria and that's the problem.

This great Puccini piece is being butchered all over the board by common

pop singers.

Im just wondering, if these people do not like Paul Potts, why do they watch his videos? Personally I love him, and I have loved him since he joined the show that put him where he is now. He is terrific, and a fantastic singer. Simply perfect in everyway i can think of :)
