Old man on a mobility scooter with a huge carpet (with music!)

Mobility scooter driver takes carpet for a ride in Wincanton, Somerset UK

A pensioner has been caught on camera transporting a large roll of carpet on his mobility scooter.

The mobile phone video shows how the old man, ironically wearing a fluorescent safety jacket, blocks a whole road lane in Wincanton, Somerset, with the carpet roll wedged underneath his seat and sticking out both sides, like wings.

The elderly driver, who is reported by the witness to have been travelling at about 8mph, does pull over at one point to allow traffic to pass.

The scooter veers unsteadily to one side as the pensioner takes a sharp left turn.

The clip, titled 'Only in Somerset', was posted online by Gary McKenna, 20, who followed the man along the road.

He said: "I was in a car with a mate when we saw him and thought it was rather out of the ordinary. We drove past and parked up and waited for him to come past and followed him. I think at times traffic coming the other way could have hit him. I don't know how old the man was, I didn't see his face, but I'd have thought he was in his 70s

Tht's just really stupid and inconsiderate to other road users. You have to ask yourself hoe legal it was for the guy in the car filming on his mobile phone, to be driving whilst filming!

I think he should be prosecuted .....

I don't believe that that elderly gentleman was displaying the appropriate wide load signs for his carpet. Perhaps when he goes back for the underlay he will drive much faster...andale andale arriba arriba. If he had been in an accident it could have been a right old shag pile up.

its not against the law to hold your phone whilst driving you are only not allowed to make a call and if you disable the ability to send or receive text msg you can use it to talk on whilst driving . so get a life and find out facts before posting comments! and you have to do some thing that endangers other road users before you can be prosecuted .
