Yes, Taichi is scientific and a great exercise and when done properly, has strong stances and strong, properly executed strikes. If this video is representative of shotokai, then the stances are weak and too long which is hazardous to one's health. There is also no proper execution of techniques. If doing shotokai is not good for one's health and useless for self defense, why do it? Money? Maybe shotokai has rich sponsers?
I agree with dogzzz3. Movements must have Yin and Yang both.. Every stance has a science behind it and a purpose. Taichi is very scientific, specially in stances. etc.. But, I doubt shotokan has any scientific background....
There is no foundation , stability or connection between movemens. There is no real connection between muscle groups when he executes a technique.
He wabbles, and due to the weakness of the stances, his techniques have no mass behind them other than the muscles of his extremities... I hate to be critical but this is just not good.
I have been a life member of the JKA since '65and trained in Japan from a student of Funakoshi. Funakoshi was alive and thriving during the days of Nakayama, Nishiyama and Kanazawa. The training was not as depicted here. Funakoshi taught the style I learned from Akiyama, Nishiyama, Okazaki, Mikami, Yaguchi, Koyama etc as I have trained with them all. The JKA advocates a dynamic, natural style based on good body mechanics, Egami did not as can be seen. The JKA is very scientific and educated.
I know what you mean I do shotokan and us too our kime uses explosiveness of ki, but I think shotokai has kime with long continous flow (you know when you strike slowly and make it burn, basically I think it's like dimmac or something like that). Shotokai guys correct me if I'm wrong about your style.
Yeah I completely agree with you on that. I also feel it's important to by analytical when it comes to the tiny movements. I know even fixing up the littlest moves can make the biggest differences when practicing kata. Also showing the transitions from move to move make the katas more sophisticated through out, and that creates good flow. I have practicing Shotokan karate for 3 and a half years now and i have a rank of brown- advanced and i have learned how to be precise and analytical.
this is karate shotokai not shotokan
nothing to see
it is based on fluidmovements and inspired in aikido
his founder is egami sensei, disciple of funakoshi.
