This is a story of the balibo five, roger east and the invasion of East Timor. Horrendous crimes were commited by Indonesian troops to the East Timorese people. The only people who seemed to care were these Australian journalists. Dont let this story go away, share it amongst your peers, dont let the lives of these brave men and the East Timorese people be forgotten!

  • Great to see so many views!

  • Thankyou yeardogone, I was in my first semester of university when i compiled this piece on the Balibo Five and Roger East. It is a story that I am still passionate about and as an aspiring journalist I endeavour to do all I can to ensure that this story never goes away.

  • @creativeengineer And your point is your Australian Goverment affraid with only Indonesian Chimpanze ? :D what's with the hate ?

  • This proves the Australian government will betray its own people if necessary for its own purposes. The David Hicks story is another example of perverted justice. The Indonesian chimpanzees who killed these men were never brought to justice, and that is why no true Australian would ever visit Indonesia. In playing the diplomatic game, bastard politicians would sell their souls to the devil.

  • Thank you "dredgyocks" for creating and sharing with us this story of the "Balibo 5" as well as Roger East. Great work!!

    May they rest in peace..

  • Nice work, Suzanne. Concise, informative and stirring. This event continues to be a blot on the history of the region, providing an unmentioned context to every diplomatic hypocrisy that arises between Australia, Indonesia, Timor Leste and the Western powers. I salute you for doing your part in keeping the memory of the victims and the uncomfortable position of the perpetrators alive.
