About the clapping. Ive been front row for Letterman, and before you go in you get read a riot act. They actual force you to clap and every pause, funny or not. Its really awkward. One girl on the right wasn't clapping and during the commercial break an assistant producer came up to her and started giving her crap.

thumbs up if you read the top comment about the clapping in the middle of the clip and it ruined the rest of it for you

@BillHicksSubtitle well it pretty much comes down to the respect he has earned through his career.

@dalusgembalus if you've ever been to a late night show you would know there are big lit signs telling you when to clap ... and laugh... also they have laugh tracks added. they prep the whole crowd on when to smile and clap... if your in one of the first few rows they ask you make sure you smile when the camera in on the crowd too!

Of course he did the same bit on Conan. It's called his "act." No comedian writes new material every time he goes out there. Why would he? He's playing to a new audience each time.
