How to rescue a canoe

Day 1: 5 friends, 1 dog, 2 canoes, glacially fed river in Alaska. Everything was going good until we hit a large sweeper log tipping both canoes. We were able to grab one of the canoes and get off the sandbar, but we had to come back the next day with a drysuit to rescue the other canoe which had become lodged in the rapids.

Never go in the rapids (fast moving water) with a rope fixed to your body or wrist. The rope can easily get wrapped around some branches and a rescuer could drown because of the rope. Many people die like this.
