7th Annual Hollywood PAL Benefit
HOLLYWOOD PAL AWARDS DINNER Every year, between 300-400 underprivileged kids take part in PAL on a daily basis and for many, it is a life-changing experience. The PAL program is completely reliant upon donations and grants to remain operational. Every autumn the PAL Board of Directors organizes a fun-filled Hollywood PAL Awards Fundraiser Dinner in support of the PAL programs. The 2010 PAL Benefit was held on Thursday, September 16, 2010 at the Music Box @ Fonda.
Each year the dinner honors outstanding Hollywood community leaders and PAL kids. The 2010 honorees included:
* Donelle Dadigan, The Hollywood Museum
* Erik Estrada, Actor/Youth Advocate
* Steven and Gillian Foster, Lucky Strike Lanes
* Mike Shea, Retired Senior Lead Officer - LAPD

The Police Activities League is a youth crime prevention program first instituted in the 1910's, which relies on a variety of athletic and recreational activities to cement a bond between police officers and youth. The program keeps "at-risk" kids off the street by providing them with positive alternatives to drugs and gangs and gives them a variety of ways to become more involved with their community. PAL is a national program with a membership exceeding 1.5 million children ages 6 to 17. PAL has more than 350 law enforcement agencies serving over 700 cities with 1,700 facilities throughout the United States. The Hollywood PAL Chapter, formed in the mid-1990's, is a volunteer-driven organization that is dependent upon support from the private sector - individuals, business leaders, corporations and foundations. With the help of several LAPD officers who work full-time with our youth, we strive to teach children to become productive, responsible and caring individuals. We provide educational, cultural, social and athletic activities at various supervised locations throughout Hollywood.
PAL is not just any program offering afterschool activities. What makes PAL unique is the interaction between police officers with the children in the program, their families, and the greater community. These interactions cement a bond between law enforcement and the community that is imperative in establishing a trusting relationship between both sectors.
Hollywood PAL offers martial arts, soccer, Hollywood Fit Club, Junior Police Academy, the Youth Leadership Council, and the PAL College Scholarship Program, as well as monthly special activities and field trips.
