I wonder - is this the only episode in which the Doctor fires a gun and kills something? Can't say I recall him ever doing that from Hartnell to Troughton (although so many episodes are missing) to Pertwee or Davison, C.Baker, McCoy. Traditionally, the Doctor abhors firearms of any kind. Here, he really seems like a gun enthusiast.
