Thoreau called the wood thrush the most beautiful sound in nature. The bird is unusual: it has two sets of vocal chords, give its call a "hollow" sound :-) I was thrilled to hear one so close to the road. Typically, I hear them around here, but they're much further back in the bush. i'm sorry there's no visual footage of the thrush. I hope to brave the mosquitoes soon and make the attempt!

Recorded July 07, 2009. Paden Road, Rideau Township, Ontario, Canada.

  • If anyone can confirm or correct the identification, "wood thrush", I would be grateful.

  • yes that is indeed a woodthrush

  • You can use that for phone ringtone. :)

  • Indeed a wood thrush, and yes -- we do have them here in Canada

  • I didn't think they had these birds in Canada.

  • birds don't have vocal folds like people do. They make sounds from their syrinx.
