Since one can't practice the calliope without the whole world hearing, I always played a stream-of-consciousness medley of whatever tunes I thought might work on the beast which occurred to me at the moment. Calliopes were designed to be heard from a long distance, so it is as loud as a rock band to the player sitting right under the pipes. - Hoyle Osborne

I'm thrilled to see and hear this document of my calliope playing on the Mississippi Queen. Of course, it breaks my heart to think that the boat and the calliope are with us no more.
