    Since one can't practice the calliope without the whole world hearing, I always played a stream-of-consciousness medley of whatever tunes I thought might work on the beast which occurred to me at the moment. Calliopes were designed to be heard from a long distance, so it is as loud as a rock band to the player sitting right under the pipes. - Hoyle Osborne
