  • Ever though of using an old desiel (SP?) engine hooked up to the mixer and bio-fuel to power it? Less gas used and the mixer can stay stationary till ready to use.

    Jei

  • Yes, that was my original intention. I bought a 2002 diesel truck planning to make my own biodiesel but learned that the 2002 engine would not work with it. So I no longer have the truck and am considering a stationary mixer for the project I will be starting this summer. Thanks for your comments.

  • It looks like the forms have to be an an absolutely dry place in order to dry properly...true? Here, in the north, we don't have dry weather long enough in the summer and I am wondering if I'd have enough time to do enough blocks in order to start building before the end of our short summer. I know I would have to keep them covered.

  • It is best to have as dry a place as possible. If you make the blocks and they are not completely dry when you put the wall up it is no problem, actually forms a stronger bond with the mortar. The blocks will continue to dry and harden as time goes by. The only problem I had was that there was some shrinkage where I had left spaces for the doors and windows. Next time I will build the wall with no spaces, let it cure completely and then cut out my fenestrations when I am ready to install them.

  • Glad you liked it. I just spent the evening with the photographer who shot my new video. We spent hours editing (making papercrete is much more fun) and it is now ready. It's a lot more comprehensive than this one and certainly more professional. I'll have a web site up soon to take orders. Have yet to set the price but would love to hear from all who would be interested in it.

  • Awesome video - lots of really hard questions answered. One remains: where did you get your pumice?

  • Pumice is mined here in northern New Mexico. It's the result of a volcano and not available everywhere. People are experimenting with all kinds of things like styrofoam.

  • cool vid but sounds like you are in an echo chamber.

  • I would encourage you to make your own biodiesel using waste veggie oil, or convert your vehicle to run on veggie oil with a second tank. I can't wait to make papercrete myself. Do you need to shred the paper? Do you need to add any bug spray to keep insects away in the papercrete? I mean do you need to seal it or can you leave it as is? Thanx for a great video.

  • I'm going to build in the hills, so I need a stationary mixer. I was thinking of a metal tub like the tow behind but with a lawn mower bolted to the top and extent the blade into the tub. I'm not sure if it will work. Maybe it will spin to fast or not have enough power?

  • So did you edit the audio to be in "Auditorium" mode or something to make it that echo-y?

  • Hrm I wonder if the contraption would cut up foam peanuts and like large pieces of styromfoam. Maybe like Foam Cups. Hee hee. It would make good insulation and be lighter.
