Shot Saturday, October 25, 2008 between 15:20 and 16:53 at Ossining, NY.
Amtrak is detouring/diverting Empire Service and Ethan Allen trains which normally originate/terminate at Penn Station, New York (NYP) into Grand Central Terminal (NYG) this weekend (and last).
This diversion is due to the replacement of switches by Metro North at CP-12 - the interlocking where Amtrak trains access the Hudson Line from the "Empire Connection". This interlocking is just north of Spuyten Duyvil and just south of Riverdale stations and was known as "DV" before being numbered.
This video begins at the site of former PF interlocking, and shows a few Metro North trains before Amtrak train #285 (NYG-NFL), We then move to Ossining Station for a few more Metro North trains including one with a full CDOT (New Haven) consist, before the tardy appearance of Ethan Allen train #291 with former New York Central Pullman Hickory Creek bringing up the markers. This car was originally built in 1948 to carry the markers of the streamlined 20th Century Limited in style.

Nice Video!
That was strange seeing a bomb train for #8741, which isn't going to Poughkeepsie.

counter-intuitive, sure, but they do it most of the time with the "semi-expresses" on the weekends. Burn that $4 a gallon diesel.
After all, who cares about the costs - when you can just push a fare increase through. We need to bring back the PSC to regulate fares.
