Conclusion: yup, hard level. (I always go for the medal on every level, and when I got to this one I also died. Like 9 times)

@falkenjeff Each of the five times I died was within the first 30 seconds, so that first onslaught of enemies is what I would consider to be the real difficulty. I actually had a lot of fun once I got past that.
Is Peppy's path more difficult? I followed Falco in this simply because it is the path I remembered the best.

@MuayRussia There are actually two different levels on Venom. Bolse leads to this. Area 6 leads to Star Wolf, Andross, and the brain.
