mine did same thing, took the agitater out and the iner tub and found a bolt broke that held the iner tub to the shaft and allowed it to hit the bottom of the tub

Hey mines doing this plus a funny noise and the clothes are really wet but only when it has a bad day. Sometimes all is well. LOL Thanks for sharing this we are going to investigate ours.

It is a Whirlpool Catalyst, labeled as a Kenmore. It had a cracked metal basket. The welding broke at the bottom of the spindal. They replaced the basket for free, but charged labor. It is working fine today.

Whirlool Catalyst? Check the suspension. Good lord! You are lucky it did not take your pecker off.
