Hannah's adoption - the first day. Hannah had hydroencephalus at birth and was not allowed to be adopted until she was older. She was adopted at 4 yrs, 8 mo. She is fine physically and very happy to have a family, praise God.

We just wanted to share this and encourage those of you who are considering adoption. We had adopted a son at birth and had another son 8 months later. Perhaps you're wondering if having an adopted child would be different or more difficult than a birth child. We can assure you that it isn't. You might also be wondering if you might feel differently about a child from another country, culture or "race". Definitely NOT. Or maybe you're wondering about an older child. Would that be a problem. Then watch the video. In many ways Hannah has been easier -- we missed all those diapers.

Every child is different. Some have physical problems or emotional problems. But they don't have to be adopted, foreign or older to have those problems. If you feel led to adopt, trust God and SPEND TIME with your child. There is no subsitute for quantity of time. Quantity IS quality.

  • In some ways, I would think adopting an older child would be more rewarding because they might be able to appreciate more. It is easy to adopt a brand new smiling baby girl at 6 months - everyone wants that. But taking in an older chld requires real love.

  • Yes, we adopted a son when he was just hours old and it never seemed like he was adopted.

But Hannah was just under 5 and had grown up in an orphanage except for the last 8 months when she was in foster care. Several times Chinese people who spoke both English and Chinese would stop and talk to us and she would tell them "I have a mommy now." (Karen's shirt has "mother" written on it in Chinese) A mother was what she wanted most. Two years now and she has been a wonderful, loving daughter

  • God bless your family for adopting her!

  • Thank you. Yes, He has blessed us - through her!

  • So beautiful, I wish I could adopt but sadly I will never know the joy of sharing love with a child, but I am soooooooo glad people like you do the unselfish act of providing love and life to one of these precious little souls on their journey through their God appointed destiny. God speed and thank you again for the encouragement you have brought to us all.

  • I read the previous comment that, "a mother is what she wanted most." Looks like she got a very good one. God bless you.

  • same here...i'm sitting here crying at work like a big dork! we are just starting the process to adopt a special needs child from china!

  • I just wanted to tell you thank you for posting this video, and for including the difficult parts (for Hannah, when she saw them leave) with the happy smiles - thank you for the reality of this video. I cried along with it, and honestly I could actually feel God changing my heart as I watched. I have 3 biological children under 4 at the moment and never considered adoption in the past, but lately... I feel God is changing me, and preparing us to adopt. Thank you for sharing!

  • i loved the part where she decides that everyone looked good with stickers!!!

  • how sweet of u to take her in
