Bernadette Peters's version of Later from A Little Night Music by Stephen Sondheim from her concert Live From Royal Festival Hall London. I think this is such an interesting twist on a veeeeery difficult song, an acquired taste I think, but one I have definitely acquired. I really enjoy the eclectic abstract edge she's given the piece. Also, what a pro folks! Haha, if you notice, she

a) Almost gets whacked with the cellist's bow, and
b) Manages not to trip when her dress gets MANGLED in her shoe, and
c) Manages to delicately get herself down to the floor to fix her shoe, all while singing this REALLY hard piece of music. Ha! Brilliant!

You can tell at the end she was like "Oh, well GREAT. Now I'm on the floor. Uh... Well maybe if I do something real weird it'll look intentional." *Insert butterfly wavey-arm movement*

  • God I love her. I didn't realize until now that she hesitated on the floor like 'okay - what now? Make something up - quick!' lol. Love her! I must meet her someday!

  • I just saw her in A Little Night Music, she was great

  • ahahha; 00:33 - 00:45 she's like eyeing him :D

  • @icebabe327 Thanks a lot! And it did indeed help. :)

  • @Cheezluvr12 Only just seen your question and that no one answered. I don't what key the song is originally in but Bernadette Peters is singing it in B flat minor. Hope that helps.

  • Well I have one thing to say to the cellist: HOW RUDE! lol!

  • Epic pizz!

  • Does anyone happen to know what key this is in? I want to try performing this, though I realize my performance will not even compare to Ms. Peters flawless interpretation. :)

  • @lindsaytheatre99 I had to do something similar to that during a performance in high school. I can tell you as a cellist, it is super weird having people moving around you in unpredictable ways when you're trying to play.

then again, I'm not much of a performer, so for all I know this guy could have loved it. it's enjoyable to watch either way

  • Seeing her in two weeks on the sixth, it is going to be amazing.

  • Who is wishing they were lucky enough to be that cellist?
