This is a case of manipulation to me. She grins when she says yes, whereas she does not rephrase the misleading sugar-coated words like 'rights' -- this is actually DEPRIVING people of parole. I would call it a right if victims were supposed to be eternally rancorous and vindictive and not forgiving.
We are having a budget crisis - now is not the time to spend more money on the criminal justice system. We're already the number 1 spender on criminal justice in the country. Let's pay for better education and roads - let's invest in California's future!
This video leaves out that Prop 9 will cost hundreds of millions of dollars since it will force the state to hang onto inmates much longer before parole consdideration hearings, no matter how less of a threat those inmates have become in the meantime due to old age, infirmity or that their commitment offense was non violent. The victims' rights here aren't new. They're already statutory law. Also, Prop 9 seeks to take away established due process and rights to counsel at revocation hearings.
'Yes' won with 53 percent.
