Magnet Fractal Zoom

This video, unfortunately, is largely an artifact of a subtle coding error in the arithmetic code in my software. I didn't realize this until someone pointed it out on Fractal Forums, and I tracked down the bug.

The isolated Julia sets are not real, and the tricorn at the center of the one that this video features is also not real. They are artifacts of an undetected overflow condition in my software.

It is amazing that this coding error actually yielded a plausible fractal!! Most arithmetic code bugs just result in total garbage.

I am leaving this video here, even though it is largely bogus, because it is nice to look at. But it is NOT an accurate representation of the magnet fractal.

Your "coding error" is not unfortunate at all -- it is an exemplar of how evolution by natural selection occurs; a copying error in the genes, usually useless or even detrimental, yields an unexpected treasure improving the organism's chances!!

@PanDeism Well, that is a very generous way of looking at the situation. I can appreciate that from a certain point of view, this thing has some merit. It is, after all, merely another iterated map that leads to a complicated fractal structure, albeint unintentionally, and a very complicated map.

Still, I am seeking a different esthetic here, one that is true to the real essence of these structures. I failed to deliver that with this video, and, worse, I failed to detect that error.
