NG Brown author of Blue Max Missions and Memories talks about an event that happened on the 24th of December, 1968 with LRRPs ("Lerps") Long Range Reconnaissance Patrols. Please tell the viewers about that.
must of been mind blowing. its probably a long shot but did u ever anyone in the lrrps or other marine named tom, from new york? i think in 68, 69, and/or 1970.
The five man LRRPs outfit I belonged to in Vietman frequently called in "Puff". On several strikes a C118 aircraft with a 50cal. mount in the side door would open fire (day/ night) while desending in a 360 degree circle while firing the machine gun. Result: An area the size of a football field would have a bullet every square inch; nothing survived and the fifth round (red tracers) made "Charlie" think a dragon fell on him (espcially after dark). Very effective.
you are probably thinking of spooky the gun ship or puff the magic dragon.they carried gatlin guns and 105 howitzers.the gatlin looked like a stream of red because of the red tracer every 5th round.
my uncle was a LRRP and told me of this relatively secret helicopter that was HEAVILY armed and even had a cannon on the side of it. he said they radio in and say bring this helicopter in(forgot the name) and "make it rain". i thought that was cool and was wondering if anyone heard a similar story.
anyone recall "the judge and the executioner" the most feared copter jockeys in all of s.e. asia !!!

In the 80's it seems I was doing both LRRPs and Force Recon, camp Shawb, Okinawa, JP.
I am wondering where it has evolved in today's Marine Corp?
I know the running hasn't changes lol or the timed uniformed movements.
