It seems that Hall and Nash were simply reacting and improvising all of their agreement reactions to Hogan's promo against the fans... I thought they "knew" who their 3rd man was all along...

Apparently up until a few days before BatB, Bischoff wanted it to be Sting.

Bischoff wanted it to be Hogan all along. Hogan wasn't game at first because of all the stuff he did for charities... especially make a wish. Hogan, having creative control, could make those kinds of decisions about his character. So with Hogan being a toss-up, Bischoff went with the next best option, which was sting. The way Bischoff describes in his book, Sting was ready to come through the curtain as the third man, when Hogan showed up and said he was in.

Sorry, but in an interview with the WCW website back in the day, Bischoff said that up until 3 days before BatB that Sting was going to be the 3rd man, but Hogan pitched such a good argument on why it should be him that he changed it.

The people were mad that Hogan turned heel, despite the fact that he was getting booed out of the building all throughout 1995. It became a common occurance in WCW when the nWo worked some sort of screwjob in the ring that the fans would start pelting the ring with garbage. If I recall correctly, they started outlawing it after one of the PPVs (Road Wild?) when the fans started throwing rocks and batteries.
