Kirk & Crew react to the new Star Trek

@Hartzilla2007 I've got no problem with them making more Star Treks, but with TNG, DS9, Voyager, and Enterprise they created a whole new bunch of characters, a new ship, and new conflicts that weren't original, and said "based on Star Trek, created by Gene Roddenberry." This is different. In this movie they've deliberately changed the original series so that it fits better with the later spin-offs. They've 'modernized' the heroes of an older generation to make them appeal to modern idiots.

Brilliant. lets not forget the remasters that changed sound effects, replaced the singer in the title credits, and made every thing look like it was under a hard light . The whole show looks like its in the dark. Why did the new abrams movie call it star trek? lack of creativity. They just wanted a quick buck. If Roddenberry were alive he would not have allowed it. If Lucas were dead they would be doing this to star wars no doubt.

This is just a quick side note here, watching the "remastered" tos my heart died a bit in side. Special effects have taken over everything and maybe the enterprise wasnt the best looking computer graphic beauty we can muster up like we can today but at least the meaning behind star trek isnt lost. this movie only proves my point. Not a bad movie....just not Star Trek.

I agree. There is only one cast of the Star Trek original series: Shatner, Nimoy, Kelley, Doohan, Koenig, Takei and Nichols. Anything else is a cheap imitation.

don't you just love Scotty's reaction when sh*t sh*t abrams appears :D

@dragonknightleader1 It would have been great to see Uhura just doing her job instead of doing Kirk. In the movie she was made into the stereotypical strong woman, and her only real role was in the love triangle. What I wanted to see was her as an exemplary crew member pulling her weight, instead I got her making out with Spock.

@MyceliaProductions42 I think primarily because Abrams took a series that was legendary for telling great stories and made it into a video-game on par with "Super Mario". Please see my review of the movie at: h t t p ://neighbors.denverpost.c o m/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=1231049

@Danielboulder1 You do know that Gene rodenberrys wife has had a major part in all of the star trek spin offs and movies and only gives the rights only to what she felt gene would have approved of?

The thing is, so much of Uhura is tied to the Civil Rights movement, but because racism just isn't as big of a deal as it was then, much of the subtext going on with her character (i.e. a minority person who is treated like every other member of the crew) doesn't have the same potency as it did in 1969. So without that subtext, her character weakens and there's very little for her to do besides her job.

Basically, there was no moral point to Abrams version. It was all the superficial stuff that they kept. Some of the greatest episodes in any given series weren't even about explosions but dialog e.g. Let that be Your Last Battlefield, Balance of Terror, Plato's Stepchildren, Measure of a Man, Q Who?, I Hugh and so on. Not to say that there weren't episodes where action was the main focus, but it wasn't the meat of the series as a whole.

@Sopmylo Could be worse. Could be Enterprise.

@notsusan You've got that right. The movie wasn't a bad movie by any means, but it just isn't true to Star Trek or Gene Roddenberry. It doesn't have the charm and initiative of TOS, nor the depth of commentary marking TNG. It's good but it doesn't really feel like any Trek I've loved and it's not the Trek that's let me love and accept myself as I am, just an action knock-off with no real message I saw.
Plus, Uhura was relegated to love interest immediately. That's pretty unforgivable.
All star trek is good.

@gforce4all
You have obviously never watched Voyager.

AN HONEST QUESTION: Why are there so many traditional Trek fans (assuming they are fans of TOS, I guess?) that hated the movie. Not trolling, just curious.

@MyceliaProductions42 speaking only for me, I did these videos in reaction to the annoying tone of the trailers Paramount was pumping out. They were made before the movie's release.
