View the difference between a child secured in a 5 point harness car seat and a booster seat using an adult seat belt. It's easy to see what the safer choice is. Keep children in a 5 point harness car seat for as long as possible.

  • Are you sure it wouldn't have made the child in the seatbelt only look a little worse? I have been reading about "submarining", where a small child slips under the seatbelt. I too would like to see the same size kids. I wonder why they didn't use them.

  • It's a Britax Prince, it has a foam shield and a seat the child sits in :)

  • What are the loads on the head, neck and spinal cord 5 point harness vs booster?

  • @brandenleeharvey

I wanted to say that in the recall it said that the harness will come off in a crash. It said that in booster mode, the seat would function fine. I would use it in booster mode or penny pinch and buy a $40 car seat- after all, your son is worth $40- use your gut instinct. You are his parent and you have to make sure he remains safe. He should be 40 pounds AND 4 years old before switching to a plain booster.

If you do get a ride, all you have to do is run the seat belt through the hole in the seat and then pull the shoulder belt out so it locks and tightens. It takes about 3 minutes to get a correct installation. I would say that the safest would be to tether the 5 point harness- I would stop getting rides from people if they cannot wait 3 minutes to tether it. I did some research about the evenflo maestro and it was recalled.

  • What I wonder is if a child would be better off in a booster seat or in a 5 point harness seat that is not tethered. My son is 3 and we have him in an evenflo maestro with the harness but we don't have a car and so when we get a ride we can't always tether the seat. He is 40 pounds.

  • @Duckyistrippin cool kk my mom is 5'8 lol no wonder he is very tall

  • @zainuintel his mom is 6'3...i take no credit for his height ;)

  • @Duckyistrippin wow thats tall for 3, im 11 nd im 5'3

  • @Imsemor ..I have a swedish carseat, the Brio Zento. My Nearly 3year old still rearfaces very comfortably! :). Swedish statistics show that children under the age of 6 should rearface if possible...nearly zero fatalities says it all....and here is New Zealand where it is quite normal to turn around at 9kg....it is the number one killer.

  • gotta roll like a boss, you crash and end up with feet sticking out the window... Fukk yeah!!

  • @elseachay06 I chose the Britax :) I think both are good seats, but my kids a monster! And when you figure in how much longer the Britax Harness is rated for than the Graco harness it seems more economic to buy the Britax even despite its higher upfront cost. Found it for 223 shipped overnight, which isnt horrible. :)

Even if he outgrows it, hopefully the extended harness life will make it a nice donation to someone else in need!
