Mulsay, which means hill of red ants in Maya, was a Mayan site long before colonial times. Its colonial birth was most likely quite early, in the XVI/XVII centuries, as the property close to Merida was given to the Montejo family and their lieutenants. Mulsay was owned by Juan de Montejo y Maldonado, grandson of Francisco de Montejo El Mozo part of the founder family of Merida.Dating from the 17th century, Hacienda Mulsey is one of the oldest colonial estates in the Yucatan.
The present day owners has completely wall in the entire hacienda. The four room guard house is really outstanding. It has a living room, huge eat in kitchen, large bedroom and bathroom. The inter terrace is lush and very private. This alone could be rented on a regular basis. There is also another small building for a grounds keeper as well. The grounds are magnificent, tall stately trees, and a vast variety of blooming plants.

The main hacienda needs some tender love and attention. There are about 10 large rooms, magnificent colonnade in both the front and back of this lovely old hacienda. There was at one time a pool in the center of the home, it reminds me of a Roman bath house. There are several other building around the hacienda that were used for henequen, the original old smoke stack is still there as well.
