Is it just me.... every time I see videos like this I feel sort of awestruck at the possibility of imminent Apocalypse from these AI robots. May be in our imaginations right now, but the doors have only been opened and the possibilities are endless.
Anyway, kudos to you smart people who figure this stuff out!

how is it going to learn if all your doing is screaming in its ear? talk to it so i learns how to speak rather then making arbitrary sounds that it then learns as communication.

They're demonstrating that the robot can react to sound with certain emotion-like patterns; the robot is not capable of learning from its environment.

A: To make it more creepy.

Why make a robot that breathes? --So it can smell things. This from the laboratory's website:
"We used the four semiconductor gas sensors as the olfactory sensation, setting them in WE-4RII's nose so that it can recognize the smells of alcohol, ammonia and cigarette smoke."

Check out the lab's website. They talk about the code they use to make it responsive to its environment there. Very promising research!
