A tour of the World Parrot Refuge.
In this portion, we're in the kitchen and intake area in the far left "arm". Wendy Huntbatch, the woman behind the refuge, introduces us to Caesar, who was rescued from a very abusive home, and lost the sight of her left eye to a backhanded slap which knocked her across the room. You can also see the 2 resident Hyacinth Macaws, Lucy and Andy, along with many other parrots who make their home at the World Parrot Refuge.
WPR is located in Coombs, British Columbia. It has 23,000 sq. feet of indoor heated free-flight aviaries as well as outdoor aviaries and is located on over 20 acres of land.
It currently has over 800 parrots from 50 species and provides a "home for life": the birds are not adopted out. The refuge provides a permanent, loving home to these often abused, neglected and unwanted parrots. It is also a home for loved parrots who are willed or given to the refuge due to the loss or infirmity of their owners.
