Hal Paige was a New York-based pianist and bandleader who had a somewhat brief recording history spanning four years in the 1950's. He started off by recording a handful of sides for Atlantic in 1953. In 1955 he recorded for the small Paradise label with two sides issued and the other two being released on an Ace Records LP comp in England in the next decade. The next year he stopped in at Bobby Robinson's Fury label to record a few more songs including this one. He made his final recordings for J&S, another tiny label in 1957.

  • I did misinform you on one thing and I apologize. It was Spruill that played on his Paradise recordings instead of Mickey Baker.

The original issues on the Atlantic recordings are as follows.

"Drive It Home" Mickey Baker:Guitar Other musicians unknown. Recorded in NYC 3/9/53 Issued on ATL 996 (78 RPM)

"Big Foot May" Mickey Baker:Guitar Other musicians unknown. Recorded in NYC 12/13/53 Issued on ATL 1032 (78 RPM)

Hope this helps and thank you!

  • ...well Mike,"Drive It Home" and "Big Foot May" are both early 50's Atlantic sides...I have those...are you saying any guitar on those tunes are Baker???...

  • Baker did record with him on his Atlantic & Paradise sides. Click on more info on the sidebar and you will see the musicians on this recording.

    Thank you for your comment!
