  • Ascended master? No.. let's leave the New Age out of this..that isn't what the film is about. St. Francis responded to Christ in the best way that he could at the time. If it were not for debts I have to pay off, I might likely do something similar. I feel like leaving this world and what temptations I can behind and joining some monastery where i can serve God without the world encroaching on me. Then maybe I can be free of scrupulosity.

  • Assisi è tra le città più belle del mondo e Zeffirelli è il miglior regista che abbiamo in Italia. Ma che meraviglia!!!!

  • This scene is so sweet.. to me the little sparrow is just God calling Francesco's soul! No danger and fear, just love!

  • @Perktube1

    Then I believe you have a calling . . . Pray for it . . God bless you . .

  • dopo la grande malattia lui si sveglio diverso !Unico il suo messaggio è universale caro Francesco!

  • quelle torri non sono di Assisi ma di San Gimignano.

  • @Azorka82, I would agree with you in the "Hollywood's-beauty-as-a-must " point , but....here is my confession: I watched this film when I was about 14.....Its message impregnated my mind and my soul for the rest of my life....but, when I watched the film again, when I was about 40, I suddenly noticed how extremely good looking Graham Faulkner (St. Francis) was....and I suspected that it influenced unconsciously in the young girl I was...It was maybe necessary, remember Plato's idea of beauty....

  • @Perktube1 I've learned since then you can't really run from temptation. I mean, Jesus was in the desert 40 days fasting and He got tempted, though that's what He was there for. And if I join a monastery I can't really make a difference in this world. Not unless I manage to write a book like Brother Lawrence did.

  • @Perktube1 Do not let your debts stop you. Leave all things you have and follow.

  • @LooksAeterna Hehe.

Just seek God. All things are His, and we are stewards.

  • @Perktube1 I find it difficult to see a source of income which is at least neutral. Perhaps I am too pessimistic to "scrupulous" in the negative sense ;-)

  • @LooksAeterna I see. But perhaps it doesn't have to involve unethical action. Remember Paul; he was supported on his journeys by donations from churches, and he thought it right to do so. A servant is worthy of his hire, don't muzzle the ox treading out the corn, etc. Giving to others, especially the poor,is considered a blessed act. It's more blessed to give than receive, but both giver and receiver are blessed.
