Watch in HQ please. Another series of rare thunderstorms for San Jose: Dry thunderstorms are expected from Friday evening until Saturday morning. These storms were created from the moisture of the remnants of Hurricane Linda, therefore creating enough instability in the atmosphere to produce dry lightning. In this video, it shows the lightning storm from up on a hill nearby Evergreen Valley High School. I saw lots of distant lightning strikes! There were a couple large ones that were a little closer. I put the good lightning strikes in slow motion :) The time in this video while viewing the lightning was from 2:45am to 3:30am, early Saturday morning of September 12, 2009. Later that same morning when the sun was rising, we were on the way to Stockton, CA for a family occasion. We also saw a couple nice lightning strikes while on the road! I slow motioned them, also. We also encountered rain while passing through Altamont Pass. Once at Tracy, we saw the edge of the entire storm! It's awesome how the storm looked at the edge; crystal blue skies to the east where the sun rose. When we arrived to Stockton, I saw many lightning (but not very visible since we were at a park with trees). Speaking of park and trees, those are the things we want to avoid while there's a thunderstorm! I caught several loud rumbles of thunder, some were loud enough to set off car alarms! The loudest thunder on tape was heard at 9:20! Then the heavy downpours came after the lightning/thunder. **Good lightning strikes are in 1:21, 2:06, then keep your focus where the city lights are in these: 3:15, 4:09 many in one, 4:38, and in the morning: 5:12, and 5:52 cloud to cloud lightning!** Hope you guys enjoy this video!

  • cool. i saw that storm up here in marin

  • @Randoman35 very nice! We actually had another thunderstorm event last Friday night, September 9, I believe. It was around 8-9 p.m. The lightning was spectacular, averaging about one flash every half minute or so. can't wait to post my footage of it soon. Thanks for watching :)

  • awesome. i was frightened when i heard the thunder. my car was alarming that time.

  • @rieygoodieguy yea it was crazy. I heard thunder every couple minutes around my area around 4am. I didn't get much sleep this day since it was the same day I had to wake up very early for a special family occasion. Interesting day for me it was :)

  • did you hear any thunder?

  • @TomyTrackmastertrain as for the early morning lightning strikes, no thunder heard. Those lightning strikes were too far away for thunder to be heard. However the thunderstorms in Stockton, there was thunder....lots! I heard thunder every few minutes in person. In the video, thunder can be heard at 8:45, 9:06 (loud enough to set off a car alarm), and a loud one at 9:22! I figure that we were in the middle of the thunderstorm. It was crazy!

  • Awesome capture, Will, so glad you got some weather! =] We're drying out (slowly) from four days of rain - nearly 8 inches! One thunderstorm (which you favorited, thank you so much). The rest just heavy downpours. More storms expected over the weekend as another trough/upper air shortwave/cold front moves through (according to NOAA, a "robust" front - whoo-hoo!! LOL). 5/5 stars!!

  • @KansasStormChaser thanks! it was a wonderful evening weather-wise. We also had another similar event like this last Friday evening and managed to get it on film. It was cool!

  • You're the creepiest kid ever. Thunderstorms are cool. Love em. You're still creepy.

  • Super amazing lightning footage! I love that big one at about 1:21. Lucky to get that since your area doesn't receive these that often.

  • Whoa, you were lucky to see this! Who would be awake at 3am? lol. Very beautiful lightning show from a distance! My favorite was the one at 1:22. Pretty creepy also with that blue-greenish sky!

  • Yes, this is the good stuff! I am happy that you were allowed this rare treat. You may enjoy an exciting earth quake but it is unfortunate that there should be so few storms there. (The only trembling obvious earth quake I ever felt was in Maine!) I saw on a lightning program that a woman moved to San Fran to avoid any lightning. She'd been struck 3 times in her life! In the queen city of the west she hasn't been struck a 4th time.
