@Orphaniel1 Your comment is stupid and my favourite director is Tarkovsky after Eisenstein and Bergman, and your comment is still stupid. This is not mat this is art. There is no 1 best, there are many in the category of potential best of the bests directors and to say 1 is best is impossible and stupid, because their work is uncomparable and brilliace in different directions that cant be compared.

I'm glad he didn't get nominated for an oscar because he was too good for Hollywood. He always won at Venice and at Cannes and that is a testament to the man. If I was a director I would much rather european accolades than american ones.
