  • Saw these guys back in '97 at Tweetsie Railroad in NC. They were FABULOUS! Got to even take the rail trip with a couple of them. Great people and so funny! If you ever get to see them.....then GO!!!

  • @Awesome53 I actually did get to see them. They actually came to my small town and played at our towns high school (the largest theater in the town) and they did there comedy for us too.

  • This is the only kind they do brazil. And they are the best at it. No offence but you won't find it in the country genre. It's WESTERN son!

  • The Song itself is based on a scary story a very young Stan Jones was told by his grandfather and he later set it to music. Another way to keep the old stories alive.Thank you for sharing!

  • @Awesome53 I've seen them.............and yes, they are too funny and kind. They are the best!

  • Great arrangement of a classic tune!☺

  • Now that's the Cowboy Way!

  • definitely did justice to this song great

  • Well wouldn't y'all know---the namesakes of Stan Jones' original title for this piece: "Riders in the Sky: A Cowboy Legend"! Slick arrangement, too.

Pub., Edwin H. Morris & Co., ASCAP

  • I am an Oklahoma cowgirl and this kind of music is real cowboy music. Cowboys used to ride night herd and sing hush, soft tunes as the kept watch on the cattle. Their voices kept the cattle calm and settled in the night of strange places.

  • Riders in the Sky fans! Hear Too Slim, Ranger Doug & Joey's appearance on the Dave's Gone By radio show, Sat Aug. 20, 2011, 10am(MT) on uncradio. c0m. If you miss it, hear it in the archives at davesgoneby. c0m.

  • I've seen them twice and hope to make it a 3rd in January.

I'm with you. I love true cowboy music, but not much country, particularly current country. The difference is 2 principle instruments that country uses that western does not, drums and the electric, steel guitar, neither of which were taken on the open plains. The other is the subject matter sung about and the audience it was expected to entertain.

I've come to learn that what I love is music at it's folk-level, in nearly every culture. Pop-culture kills everything it touches.
