We have a Dyson DC16 with a problem of the battery that keeps on cutting out for the first few mins of use, have to keep on pressing the trigger button all the time and then eventually it works without cutting off. Not that good after only 2 years of having this. Apart from that though overall, it has been very reliable and have been able to vacuum 1 room with it say if can't be bothered to get the bigger vacuum out.

  • My DC16 started shutting off on its own after running for a few seconds-when I went to "support" on the Dyson website I realized that I had the prefilter in wrong;correcting this seems to have solved the problem.

  • @Wilfyism Lucky you. My unit had a faulty battery it was nothing to do with the filters.

  • The problem is the battery. Lithium batteries gradually lose charge after production. After about three years the cells completely degrade and our trash, and if the vacuum you bought has been sitting in a store for a year (which is really common with high value appliances) then you have less than two years of use for the battery. Luckily, the off brand batteries for the dyson's are quite cheap and usually have better performance. The same thing happens to cell phones and laptops.

  • @nanochase No, There was actually a fault with it. I think I have mentioned it around a million times on this video. The battery unit was only around 2 years old at the time and kept on cutting out which was not normal despite what you say about lithium batteries! I have since replaced the battery with another and it has been fine since so obviously the battery was faulty.

  • it is out of battery

  • @trains432 I do know the difference between when a battery is flat and when it isn't. The battery has a problem as posted, if you read it properly you will see that.

  • Had this same problem with mine -- ran for a few seconds, then shut off. Over and over again! Couldn't figure out the problem. I cleaned all the filters, checked everything... I'd had the DC16 for almost 4 years,

Next tried the battery from a friends DC16. That was the answer!

I bought my new battery on ebay.

  • actually to be honest, the dyson handhelds r the best but, the battery life is terrible thats all so thats why ppl hate em the preformance is great!

  • "It ain't got no gas in it!" (K. Childers)

  • Thanks for posting the video, I also have the same issue with the battery and customer service. No longer considering another battery or another Dyson product, just a diffrent hand held form a diffrent maker. This gets recycled today!

  • Mine does the same thing.

  • mine has never had that problem bfore
