Extract from the novel, Mortal Engines, by Philip Reeve.
Read by Kenneth Branagh.

This is the world of Mortal Engines - the stunning first novel from Philip Reeve and a book which defies easy categorisation. It is a gripping fantasy and astonishing, page-turning thriller peopled with engaging and totally believable characters.

Wonderful book, beautifully read by Kenneth Branagh

  • he has a funny voice...who is he?

  • Kenneth Branagh is probably best known for his roles as Hamlet (1996), Henry V (1989), as Benedick in Much Ado About Nothing (1993) and Gilderoy Lockhart in Harry Potter. (2002)

  • He was in a remake of 'Wallander' recently - which makes this audio clip oddly hilarious by way of contrast!

  • I think that the variety of roles he has had so far in his career demonstrates what a diverse and consummate performer he is.

  • Sweet. Love this book.

  • I read the book in two days and moved straight onto Predator's Gold. I finished that and I was STILL in love with this quartet. This book is MINT!

  • I love listening to him narrating the story, but I think they should have hired a woman to do Hester's voice. ;) The way Kenneth Branagh voices her makes her sound whiny...

  • Can't find this book anywhere on my country. Where can i get the audiobook online?

  • Kenneth Branagh is a brilliant actor and director but completely unsuited to doing the voices for this. (For those interested, you can buy this on Amazon)

Hope no-one is deterred from reading the books which are quite brilliant.

Also hope Peter Jackson succeeds in making this into a decent film

  • Hester doesn't sound like that :(

  • @newhopeRocks i think you mean 'web of air'

  • I've read the first book soon 30 times, I read it nine times the first nine days I had it...

I love 'em... I really love 'em...

  • New book... NEW BOOK> Too everyone that does not yet know.. search for a book called "Fever Crumb" and the newest books yet "Web of sir"

  • Where can I get this auido book? I've searched everywhere. You'd think if Kenneth Branagh has recorded it they'd sell it.

  • Nope. Pete, you live on another planet, far far away from here
